abstract

The lecture on spatial planning would introduce students to urban planning in the United States more broadly, but focus more on the Washington State - an early adaptor of the statewide growth management act (GMA), which has had a broad and long-ranging impact on spatial planning since the 1990. The lecture will also discuss Seattle’s most recent comprehensive plan: Seattle 2035 to highlight different strategies within the plan that strive for a more equitable urban development. Collectively the WA GMA and Seattle 35 will clarify the role of different institutions and agencies in furthering the goals of spatial planning in Washington State.
