University of Tokyo

The University of Tokyo was established in 1877 as the first national university in Japan. As aleading research university, UTokyo offers courses in essentially all academic disciplines at both undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research across the full spectrum of academic activity. The University aims to provide its students with a rich and varied academic
environment that ensures opportunities for both intellectual development and the acquisition of professional knowledge and skills.

Urban engineering

The Department of Urban Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, offers graduate programs with scholarship for international students. The fields of study in the department are environmental engineering or urban and regional planning. Education and research supervision are conducted either in English or in Japanese. Solving contemporary urban problems requires not only a deep, specialized knowledge of underlying core technologies, but also a general understanding of the working mechanisms behind a wide range of interrelated factors.

Wide range

Furthermore, the capacity to solve these problems might go beyond a single specialist's knowledge, making effective teamwork necessary to tackle issues from different perspectives. Our program provides a wide range of research and educational opportunities to learn these skills.

We expect that students will help develop the field of urban engineering as we strive to enhance the future prosperity of our society.
